Luella's shop storm

With London Fashion Week only a few days behind us and the excitement of Luella showing in London, her new shop was stormed by a gang. The Mayfair outlet only opened its doors a week ago and has been the target of thieves on mopeds trashing the place and stealing up to
thousands of pounds of products.

Around 1am in the morning the gang broke the glass doors grabbing bags and clothes, leaving the place in a total state. About ten minutes earlier, the group broke into cashmere shop Brora taking two racks of clothing. The incident follows a number of high-end fashion robberies in London; according to the police the same gang is involved. Previously the thieves robbed the Ralph Lauren store in Bond Street.

Chief Inspector Martin Johnson, of Westminster police commented “They are stealing high value goods that can move fairly easily on the market.” This season Luella returned to the London catwalk after showing in New York. With the opening of her first standalone shop, it was great to be back at home at the source of her inspiration for her designs.

Pitti Uomo introduces female section

It's not all about men fashion at the upcoming edition of the Italian fashion trade show Pitti Uomo in Florence. Alongside menswear, the tradeshow will also offer womenswear. The Pitti W_Woman Precollection will focus on the Spring collections. Around 40 fashion brands will be represented at the Customs House based on the Via Volfanda at the first edition from 9 until 12 January 2008. Originally Pitti Uomo was solely set up as a tradeshow targeting on the fashion market for men.

According to the director of Pitti Uomo, Gaetano Marzotto focussing on womenswear is the next step. “Times change and so does fashion. The traditional way of thinking and how to organising tradeshows change with it,” said the director at a press conference in Florence. “Pitti Uomo is not just a menswear tradeshow, but also a fashion platform where the needs of the entrepreneur play an important role. Visitors from Paris, London, Berlin and Barcelona expect an excellent service, special events, but most importantly an overview of inspiring fashion.”

The previous edition of Pitti Uomo in January attracted fewer visitors in comparison to previous year. In 2006, 27.522 people came to Florence and in 2007 only 26.316 made their way down to the Italian trade show.

Golden Age of Couture party

With the occasion of the important fashion weeks, there are events to which participate celebrities and models we have followed at Fashion Rock during the New York fashion week. One of them was the inauguration of The Golden Age of Couture Gala at Victoria and Albert Museum, that renders homage to fashion trend between 1947 and 1957, through creations, illustrations and films produced by Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy and english designers Hardy Amies, Norman Hartnell and Balmain.

Kate Moss was present at this party wearing a vintage dress from Dior, than unfortunately during the evening has yielded, tearing itself in various points.

Other celebrities present were Lily Cole in Prada, Anne Wintour in Prada, Emma Thompson in Prada, Jemima Khan in Dolce & Gabbana, Claudia Schiffer in Chanel and Agyness Deyn in Burberry.

Dressing for Success: Do You Have These Essential Pieces? Vera Wang Says You Should

by Nikki LeRoi

Recently, famous and fabulous fashion designer, Vera Wang, made an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show. Now that in itself is nothing new since Oprah often features designers on her show. What was so exciting about this appearance is that Vera Wang is now designing clothes for real women with real budgets.

That's right, you no longer have to be either rich or famous to afford a Vera Wang outfit. The line is called "Simply Vera Wang" and is exclusively available a Kohls department store.

Oprah's studio became a temporary fashion runway as real-life mothers and daughters teamed up to model the latest Vera Wang ready-to-wear pieces. I must say that I was impressed with the quality and fit of the clothes. The middle-aged moms looked as chic as their daughters.
Whether you are interested in Vera Wang's designer line or not, she gave some great tips of what kind of basic clothing pieces she felt all women should have in their closets.

Why should you have basic pieces?
You should build your wardrobe around basic pieces because this will give you way more options to choose from than if you concentrate on many mismatched pieces. This strategy will save you both time and money in the long run.

Here are Vera's suggestions:

Black Blazer - You can do numerous things with a basic black blazer. Pair it with a silk blouse and skirt for the office. Wear it with a white t-shirt and your favorite pair of designer jeans. Layer it over a long tunic. Wear it with a colorful sweater.
Black Leggings - Yes, leggings are still fashionable and they are great alone or used as a layering piece. Wear them with a black blazer and a colorful tunic. Wear them underneath a skirt. Wear them underneath a long casual dress. Wear them with an animal print blouse and high heels. Wear them with a casual top, a belt, and flat shoes. Wear them with a chunky sweater and boots.
Basic Skirt - A nice basic skirt that is made out of classic materials and flows easily when you walk is a nice essential to have and a classy alternative to pants. Buy in basic colors: black, tan, grey.

Basic Cardigan - A cardigan sweater in white, black or navy can go with a variety of outfits. A sweater is easy to dress up or down. Accessorize with a neck scarf, pearls, a long necklace, a pin, a belt, etc. Oh, and push the sleeves up on your arms a bit for extra style points.

Basic White Blouse - A fashionable white, cotton blouse looks so crisp and clean by itself or underneath a sweater or blazer. Simply classic.

Little Black Dress - Find a little black dress that fits great and looks marvelous on you and you're ready for a great evening out.

These are great suggestions and you can find these basic pieces anywhere. Remember that you can start with the basics and build your wardrobe accordingly to your own sense of taste and fashion style.

Fashion School Alumni at New York Fashion Week

During New York Fashion Week, fashion mavens of the world converge on the Big Apple for a full week of hobnobbing and haute couture. In a non-stop parade of parties and runway shows, the hottest designers preview their upcoming season's collections for journalists, buyers, celebrities and fashionistas.

If you're thinking that making it to Fashion Week in New York involves dropping out of school and going to a lot of trendy parties, think again. While the celebrities plastered across the pages of In Style may not need schooling to pick out a hot outfit, many of the designers behind these trends study long and hard at top fashion schools around the world.

At this February's show, fashion taboos have been flaunted, and last season's styles have been banished to the back of the closet. However, one thing that will always be en vogue is a college degree. From Parsons The New School for Design to the Fashion Institute of New York, leading fashion schools in the US are well represented at the top of the designer heap, proving that even in the celeb-fueled fashion world, degrees are still de mode.

2007 New York Fashion Week Honor Roll
The fashion industry is more than creativity and passion - it's also extremely competitive. That's why The Art Institutes' fashion programs focus on the creative and business aspects of this fast-paced industry.
If you're an aspiring trendsetter with your sights set on the fashion world, check out this honor roll of fashion school alums from this year's shows:

Calvin Klein - Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT)
A native of the Bronx, Calvin Klein is no stranger to New York Fashion Week. He attended the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and launched his first line in 1968. Since then, he has built a fashion empire that grosses $3-5 billion annually. Klein's underwear and denim lines have anchored his soaring success in the fashion business, placing him as an American fashion icon on par with designers such as Ralph Lauren.

Donna Karan - Parson's The New School for Design
After two years at Parsons in New York's trendy Greenwich Village, Donna Karan left school to intern for Anne Klein, who fired her within a few days. Karan's perseverance won her back the job, and her unique take on modern fashion eventually earned her a role as the label's co-designer, before she eventually broke off to start her own design house.

Proenza Schouler - Parson's The New School for Design
One of this year's hottest Fashion Week collections is the result of a chance meeting at Parsons. In 1999, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough teamed up at Parsons on a project that they named Proenza Schouler after their mothers' maiden names. The design duo has become a hot name in the industry with their youthful approach to upscale couture.

David Rodriguez - Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM)
David Rodriguez attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles. His fashion week collections run the gamut from office wear to red carpet attire. A multitude of celebrities such as Mariah Carey, Jessica Alba, Kirsten Dunst and the casts of Friends and Sex in the City often appear wearing in his latest fashions.

Australian fashion - Alice McCall Spring/Summer 2007/08 collection

'Welcome to the Dollhouse' Resort Collection 2007Alice's collections capture the free, bohemian style of the 60's and 70's and it is this inspiration that continues to guide the path she walks. The tone for the collection is set with an audacious colour palette of ruby red, sapphire blue and black framed with neon details for a modern edge. This boldness is grounded with a feminine sensibility; soft grey, lemon and biscuit, and appear as beautiful poppies and cherry blossoms on soft silks and cottons.

Alice's signature whimsical dresses are framed with devore velvet panels, neon blanket stitch and contrast piping. Delicate silk blouses feature beautiful origami inspired folded and pleated waist bands, naive appliqué an sweet cotton sun dresses in bright primary colours have a child like innocence.

Short trench style jackets in navy and creme with red buttons that pop team with sporty Parisian striped jersey styles that have an urban sportswear edge. Chuncky exposed silver zips highest functionality in the strong silhouettes of rock and roll fashion - cool drill biker jackets and skinny jeans contrast with seventies bohemian florals in lime and sapphire.

Cute round toe flats and pumps compliment the collection, grosgrain ribbon threaded through eyelets and neon crochet edging add the signature Alice McCall handwriting. These off beat touches can also be found on a bucket bag and clutch purse to complete the look.

'Welcome to the Dollhouse' perfectly combines elements of tender girlish charm, bohemian flare and idiosyncratic detailing with a return to all things girly and fresh. The collection is pretty and youthful with the modern edge we have come to expect from the label, and of course there are plenty of surprises...

On the red carpet of the Festival of the Cinema of Venice (Italy) we have seen many great stars with their splendid dresses proposed by important designers. But theirs look would not have been complete without use of accessories.

People can admire belt-pochettes that can illuminate the beauty of the attrice that wears it. They also have seen splendid dresses jewel binds together to most elegant evening dresses.

A spcial mention for men who have preferred the stylish butterfly bow instead of the necktie.
